Blender is amazing production tool, that although it pertains to the category of free software (Open Source) it excels with many of its qualities and astounding speed of development. It is very capable modeling, visualisation and animation tool with its own game engine. For its open nature together with its qualities I prefer to use Blender more and more over some professional commercial software.

A unique open source subdivision modeler Wings 3D! It has certain technological limitation in modeling (all objects must have closed geometry), but it has some of the unique features I miss in some top modelers.
